On the sculptures of Elgin Willigerodts

There is no doubt that the line is the starting point, the supporting element in the works of sculptor Elgin Willigerodt. Lines that create order as skeletal struts, only to detach themselves again in the next moment. Lines that “dance”, blurring the boundaries between outside and inside, between movement and standstill.

The works on display, filigree constructions made of strongly colored wooden or iron rods, exhibit a geometry that is clear and immediately comprehensible at first glance. Their expressive colorfulness and the interlaced asymmetry are irritating and therefore make them appear alive. Apparently “rigid” forms intertwine and are set in motion.
